Peach Blossom Colony derives from the story Peach Blossom Spring written by Eastern Jin scholar Tao Yuanming. It is a significant cultural work in Chinese history; Peach Blossom Spring expresses ancient literati’s criticism of society as well as their longing for seclusion. In a utopian dream, people from different background gather together, drink wines, write poems, ride horses in the field and hike in the mountains. People there have no hierarchy and appear in an ideal state of equality and harmony.
Alongside with the rapid growth in modern society, materialism and consumerist culture are gradually filling up people’s spiritual minds; as like concrete forests taking over the great nature. However, the dream of a Peach Blossom Spring will always exist in some of our minds. Peach Blossom Colony continues further in style, from afar, the scene and the people seem to be peaceful, yet when the audience looks closer, they will find much more metaphorical elements that signify a post-industrial modern world we live in.
